Symptoms of Sciatica Pain

Symptoms of Sciatica and its pain levels can vary from severe to mild and are mostly described by health experts as a burning sensation, shooting, cramping, electric shock-like sensation in a similar pattern. Typically, only one side of the body is affected, and the pain can become worse with prolonged bending, sitting, twisting, sneezing, and coughing. Numbness is also associated with sciatica pain in a similar pattern.

Causes of Sciatica Pain

The word sciatica means “pain that originates from the sciatic nerve.” The sciatic nerve is a large nerve that extends from the lower back and goes down to the back of the leg. Sciatica isn’t a disorder, but rather, it is a pain symptom of some other underlying issues like neural or spinal foraminal stenosis, overgrowth or enlargement of the bone, a pinched nerve in the herniated disc or lower back, facet hypertrophy and bone spurs, causing the narrowing of the space where the nerve travels.

Diabetes, which can lead to nerve damage, causes the symptoms, as mentioned earlier, of sciatica pain. Also, a tumor can be the cause of this form of pain by pressing on the sciatic nerve.
